Untitled 02/09/03

We know that everything we wear and do remains
Etched for a little life-time on our skin
and in our flesh. The All of us exists in constant change.

You have remained and so I live with you
As surely as the sun has changed my face
fingers know: the shape of every key press will endure

Movements instantiate themselves in form and motion
the way you walk, eat, speak reshapes my brain
like the way I always rush to taste the ocean
I now reshape myself to think on you

Fingers lips hair ankles hips; all our bodies beautiful and strange
You are so always lovely. I am at a loss to say
No words are left to comfort or constrain.

I wish you left a scar that I could see
Sun and sand conspire to record
If Fate allowed I’d tempt you to the beach

And there you’d hold your hand against my cheek
Countless hours later golden shadow
Or deep pink damage outlines palm and fingers
Then I would have a token I could keep
